AMFI reassures debt mutual fund investors about credit quality of debt funds
Following the announcement of winding up of six debt mutual fund schemes by Franklin Templeton Mutual Fund, Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi) today assured investors that majority of fixed income mutual funds are invested in superior credit quality securities, and these schemes have appropriate liquidity to ensure normal operations.

NEW DELHI: In the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, mutual funds have been given a number of relaxations by regulator Sebi and they have got full flexibility regarding valuation of Pass Through Certificates including in case of moratorium on underlying loans, officials said on Sunday.

Heightened volatility in capital markets in reaction to COVID-19 has imposed liquidity strains on mutual funds (MFs), which have intensified in the wake of redemption pressures related to closure of some debt MFs and potential contagious effects therefrom. The stress is, however, confined to the high-risk debt MF segment at this stage; the larger industry remains liquid.
